KjunKutie's Mega Useful and Easy to Access Genealogy Website I have been researching my family history since 1994. The interest started when I realized that I only had one grandparent left and she was turning eighty that year (she has since passed away). I thought that if I didn't find out all of the information known about my family that I might not have another chance. Seems I waited a little too late because her memory wasn't what it used to be but I gathered as much information as I could - a hint to all of you would-be genealogists, gather all of the information you can now from all of your grandparents, aunts, uncles, parents, and great-grandparents if you're lucky. |

Les filles du Roy Filles du roi or girls available to marry. In addition to female children accompanying their families, two types of unmarried women, including a very small number of widows, settled in New France after the founding of Québec, in 1608, and of Montréal, in 1642. History has grouped them under a general heading: girls for marrying. Although they were girls for marrying, les Filles du roi are distinct from that group and the expression used to designate them applies exclusively to the women and girls who emigrated to New France between 1663 and 1673. These young women of marriageable age and capable of bearing children are so called because their transportation and settlement expenses, as well as the dowry for some of them, were assumed by the royal treasury. |

Since that time, Madawaska has been the site of Maine's largest cultural Festival. Though we have lost our lovely Acadia, we will never forget her. We will continue to speak her language, sing her songs, and celebrate her traditions; for the spirit of those first Acadians lives on in all of us. |
