In April of 1994, at the urging of many genealogist friends and "Acadian-Cajun Cousins" I, along with 134 other participants, undertook the Project of having the first French Canadian/Acadian Genealogy CD-ROM of its kind (and size), produced!
The original CD was DOS-based and somewhat difficult to use. However, in 1999 I upgraded the CD to a Windows-based version [Windows95 or higher], powered by the very popular genealogy program, Brother's Keeper. The original DOS-based CD is no longer available!
The newly issued "In Search of Our Acadian Roots" CD, includes approximately 150 GEDCOM files, provided by the 134 genealogists (from all over the world) who participated in this project. Each of these GEDCOM (which have purposely _not_ been edited), can be viewed using the BK program provided. No additional software (or program), is required. Once imported into the BK program, the extensive genealogical files are lineage-linked and include the usual dates of birth, marriage and death, as well as the source of this information, as provided by the participants. In total, the CD contains genealogical information on 400,000+ lineage-linked individuals.
The CD also includes over 200 genealogy-related Shareware/Freeware Programs and Utilities, with a PAF Review program (which provides a very detailed "review" on most of the Shareware programs & utilities). In addition, the CD contains hundreds of Acadian reference texts, as well as Acadian census' and all of Peter Berlo's "Acadian History/Tidbits"...and much much more. This is reportedly the largest single Acadian-Cajun/French-Canadian data base available, anywhere.
Once a user determines the information of interest, is is a simple procedure to create a GEDCOM file, which can then be imported into ones own genealogy program.
This CD-ROM can NEVER GO OUT OF DATE!
The all-inclusive cost of the CD-ROM is $39.95 (USA funds) or $44.95 (Canadian funds)...this price INCLUDES handling, shipping and postage. And, it can now be ordered Online (over a "secure" server), using Visa/Master Card (see below).
Complete instructions for using the CD is provided and I'm always available to help, via E-Mail at: [email protected]
You can now order Online using Visa or Master Card through a secure gateway server. Merely click on the graphic links below,to be transferred to the secure server...
There are three ways you can place your order for the CD:
1. The easiest (and fastest) way, is to place your order Online using Visa/Master Card. Security is NOT a concern since your order will be processed on a "secure" server. This means that all the information provided is 'encrypted' so that no one can read your actual credit card information! Merely click the link (just under the Visa/Master Card logo) and enter the required information. If successful, you will be automatically transferred to a "Thank You" page. (Note: If you receive an error message such as... "Sorry, an error occured, your transaction was not completed", your order has NOT been processed properly [and your credit card will NOT be charged]. Within 3-4 working days, you will receive an e-mail message from me, confirming receipt of your order and advising the date the CD will be shipped. It's that simple! If you encounter any difficulty placing your order (very rare), it is usually because the server is "down" for maintenance. Try again in a few minutes. If you still experience difficulty, send me an e-mail and I will follow-up.
2. If you prefer, you can e-mail me your VISA or MASTER CARD credit card information and I will process the order for you. Be certain to include the credit card number, the date of expiry and the exact name on the credit card. You will receive the customary e-mail from me, confirming your order and advising date the CD is being shipped-out. My e-mail address is [email protected]
3. Click here (or on the button below) to order Genealogy CD-ROM's by Regular Postal Mail.
Click on the button above.
In some regions of the USA, VISA/MASTER CARD has introduced a recent policy of NOT approving "International" orders unless pre-approved by the customer (this is for your protection). I'm told they also apply this new policy, for anyone who have _not_ used their credit card for a long period of time... again, this is for your protection. So, _before_ placing your order, just phone Visa/Master Card and alert them to the fact that you want this transaction approved. FYI.
1. If you want your order shipped to an address different than your home address, please indicate that in the "Comments Section" of the order form.
2. When your order is processed correctly, you are automatically transferred to a "Thank You" page. Your credit card is NOT charged, until you are transferred to this "Thank You Page".
Note: If you encounter any difficulty placing your order Online, please contact me via e-mail and let me know so I can follow-up on it. Thanks.
PS: I confirm date your order is received by Internet (only) and advise date the CD is shipped-out to you. So please provide your E-Mail address, if applicable.
The Brothers Keeper Program which I have been providing with each CDS since April 2011 has been updated to work with Vista and Windows7. HOWEVER, if you purchased a copy of the CD prior to April 2011, you will need to source and install the "FREE" latest version of the B. K. Program in order for it to work on Vista and Windows7. Click here to source latest version.
1. While this CD is intended to be run on PC platform only, be advised that I include the applicable GEDCOM for each file on the CD (in the Gedcoms Folder). Thus, if you are using a genealogy program on your Mac computer which has the capability of importing GEDCOM files (i.e. Reunion), you can easily import those files into your own genealogy program and run it on your Mac computer.
2. I'm also told by a "Mac friend" that you can run it using Windows emulation software, such as Virtual PC however, it is somewhat slower running because of emulation mode... but I'm told it WILL work.
Final Note: Since all of my CD's are PC-based (and I am NOT a Mac person), I'd be interested to know how well (or even, if) this 'solution 2' works, from any Mac Users.
Q. Family Tree Maker's Web site says it has abandoned efforts to create a Mac version of that genealogy software. What can Mac owners who want to computerize their genealogy do?
A. Although Family Tree Maker, now on version 16 for Windows, has long been a stalwart in the genealogy software category, it's just one of the options out there for Macintosh computer users.
In fact, there's a whole site dedicated just to Mac roots-and-relatives software at www.macgenealogy.org, and the site also offers news, reviews and user forums.
Some of the Mac-based genealogy programs out there include iFamily for Tiger (ifamilyfortiger.com), which integrates itself with the Mac OS X iPhoto program for organizing family pictures. Other options include MacFamilyTree (www.onlymac.de/ indexe.html) and Reunion (leisterpro.com).
If you are not sure which software to get, all three programs offer trial versions to download from their sites.
The Mac Genealogy site has links to several other Mac-friendly applications and utilities to help you build up your database of personal history.
You can now order Online using Visa or Master Card through a secure gateway server. Merely click on the graphic links below,to be transferred to the secure server...

For a limited time only, you can order BOTH CD's for a combined all-inclusive price of $59.95 (USA) or $64.95 (Canadian). You can order Online using VISA or MASTER CARD, or via Postal Mail. When your order is placed Online, your Visa/Master Card will be charge a total of $59.95 [US funds].
