Eastman’s Online Genealogy Newsletter, November 23,1999

“Acadian-Cajun Family Trees” is not a simple collection of old records copied onto CD-ROM. Instead, it is a true lineage-linked database. The database is searchable, with almost each person listed linked to a spouse as well as to children and (usually) to parents. Software included on the CD-ROM allows the user to generate printed ancestor, descendant and fan style charts, just like previous Progeny software versions. …

All in all, I’d rate the “Acadian-Cajun Family Trees” CD-ROM disk as excellent. I’d say this even if it didn’t list about a hundred of my ancestors! While all the data needs to be verified, this CD-ROM is a “must have” for anyone researching Acadian ancestry. I know it has earned a permanent place on my bookshelf. I plan to spend a lot of time with it in the next few weeks.

CD Description

Discover Your Acadian Roots! This lineage-linked database contains over 600,000 family history records from 2,500 family names, including all of the major Acadian-Cajun names. The unedited ancestral records compiled on this CD were submitted to Yvon Cyr, host of the Acadian-Cajun web site. They are lineage linked so you can trace your family history from modern day Acadian and Cajun families to generations past.

About the Author:

Yvon Cyr, himself an Acadian descendant, was born in 1940 in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada. Inspired by his late uncle Roch Cyr, Yvon began compiling family tree submissions from Acadian and Cajun descendants in 1990. Yvon authored and published his first genealogy CD “In search of Our Acadian Roots” for the Congrès Mondial Acadien in 1994. Through his website, Acadian Genealogy Homepage
(www.acadian.org)
, Yvon continued to compile family trees from individuals with Acadian and Cajun ancestry. In 1999, Progeny Publishing of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, licensed Yvon’s collection to produce the Acadian-Cajun Family Trees CD. Yvon continues to dedicate much of his time to maintaining his website and researching his own Acadian roots.
